A well-written book has the ability to transport you to a world full of wonder. One of the trickiest elements for an author to master is putting conversations into words, especially when writing from a character perspective that is so completely removed from your own real-life personality. When an author truly nails a verbal quote or a line that resonates, it’s magical. I’ve begun writing down quotes from books I read that I find profoundly wonderful. Here are a few of my favourite quotes from a few of my favourite books (I’m a fantasy fiction lover at heart, so you’ll find most of the quotes are from that genre).
the hero of ages – brandon sanderson
“For he knew that the winning side wasn’t always the right side.”

harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban – jk rowling
“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

eragon – christopher paolini
“The greatest enemy is one that has nothing to lose.”

the long way to a small, angry planet – becky chambers
“Ninety percent of all problems are caused by people being assholes.”
“What causes the other ten percent?” asked Kizzy.
“Natural disasters,” said Nib.”

The Daylight War – Peter V Brett
“You are my daughter. I would love you if you put out the sun.”

the road – cormac mccarthy
“If only my heart were stone.”
